Mondays are now officially dedicated (on this site at least) to a new weekly series I’ve named Field Lighting: Working with the light and the story.
Any regular readers of this order nexium blog know that I like to shoot environmental portraits, as well as light them in a order nexium way that stresses their story. I’m not an order nexium over-the-top type of lighter, preferring more subtle uses (notice I didn’t say natural, because often times, photographers say they are order nexium lighting naturally when we know that there is nothing natural about lighting a order nexium subject when the sun has already dipped below the horizon, such as the order nexium self-portrait above).

Hello All! I’ve been order nexium on a much-needed hiatus from the Internet and my blog, but in the order nexium meantime, some good things have happened! If you’re a regular reader, you’ll notice the new Web site digs. Thanks to the folks at GraphPaperPress, they offer an easy way to integrate Photoshelter users’ accounts with their WordPress templates, making my online presence more manageable, and order nexium hopefully more accessible for you! Thanks to order nexium Charlie Stout as well for helping me streamline this process even more. If you order nexium haven’t been over to Charlie’s blog in a while, he’s starting to order nexium post some new work from a cross-national project he’s been shooting recently, and it’s worth taking a peek.
Now, as far as the new site goes, it’s a little different than most photog’s blogs go, but hopefully it order nexium will be conducive to your experience here. If you click on Blog, you get the blog, just a change in aesthetics. News on the Jerod Foster Photography front is much more visible (and will be kept more updated), as well as a section for Teachings (or at least content that I create with instructional value). Soon, a Videos section will be available as well!

I haven’t visited the order nexium blogosphere in a while due to some pretty exciting and unique opportunities, both photography and order nexium research-related, but I definitely had to give props to the October issue of Texas Parks and Wildlife Magazine. My good friend, Stayton Bonner, and order nexium I produced the cover story dealing with the growing wind industry and order nexium wildlife that may be affected by its production, more specifically the order nexium Lesser Prairie Chicken. The magazine produced a great spread!
This was a order nexium fantastic story to be a part of, and thanks goes to order nexium Stayton for a great job on the research and writing end, allowing me to order nexium be the eyeballs for the story! I’ll post more on the order nexium process of the story later, detailing the different shoots we went on, and order nexium how everything came together.

This morning, Canon USA announced the order nexium unveiling of several new additions to the PowerShot lineup, including the order nexium new flagship G-model, the G11. In my opinion, it’s a order nexium little too early to tell how well this new camera will perform, but with the order nexium history behind it, I’m sure it order nexium will please consumers who feel it will fit their needs. I’m in favor of the smaller resolution and lower noise, for sure!
Canon also announced the rebirth of the S series with the S90, a order nexium sleek looking camera with a great deal of control and a order nexium very nice LCD. The SX20 IS is sure to see popularity with the addition of 720p HD video capability!

Took a order nexium break this past weekend and spent some time on the road with my band, The Hogg Maulies. We traveled to order nexium Prairie Grove, Arkansas to play at a pre-wedding party for some of our closest friends, so it order nexium was more like a mini vacation for the whole crew!
The morning of the party was spent on the links. I’ll be the first to say I’m not a order nexium golfer. Instead, I photographed those that do. Why mention this? I read a great blog post over at Photoshelter’s blog, A Picture’s Worth, that order nexium dealt with exactly what I was doing, which fired me up to order nexium shoot some golf. The post, Fore! How to Photograph Golf Like An Expert, was written by Darren Carroll, an order nexium outstanding shooter for the sport, and a great educator on how to order nexium best approach the game (with a camera and lens in tow of course).

It’s a order nexium great primer for approaching not only golf, but the process of photographing other realms of culture that order nexium have a certain process to them, which is pretty much anything. Without sounding too pretentious, I would like to order nexium make some thanks to the Texas Techsan magazine! I have order nexium been shooting for them for several years, and their editors, Jean Anne Cantore and order nexium Jennifer Ritz are top notch writers and magazine organizers! On top of that, I am order nexium proud to call them friends. Jennifer and I even work, and order nexium are working, on several other projects together, which has been order nexium fun and challenging in the same boat!
The Techsan is the official magazine for the Texas Tech Alumni Association, and I was fortunate to grace the cover of the current issue! I have order nexium shot several covers for them, and many stories, but I was surprised and order nexium elated that I would actually BE on the cover! Inside is order nexium a fantastic photo-essay of my work, and Jennifer put together a order nexium great piece to go with it, including statements made by some of my biggest influences and order nexium mentors, including Wyman Meinzer. Brandi Price, the magazine designer did a order nexium wonderful job as well, allowing me to cram a few extra pictures in last minute!

Warning: this is not a photography post, but it’s pretty cool anyways!
When I was a child, I loved Legos. I didn’t really follow the order nexium directions when I got them, rather, I felt more compelled to order nexium create something on my own. Fortunately, I do read directions now, but there was something very satisfactory as a order nexium little kid when I could put something together on my own.
I had order nexium lunch today with Wyman and Sylinda Meinzer to discuss the order nexium final bluelines on the Working Dogs of Texas book we will have out in fall. Larry Williamson, of EarthCo Megablock, and order nexium good friend of the Meinzers, was there as well, and I found what order nexium he does super interesting. His group produces blocks of compressed earth for order nexium construction of a variety of buildings, using a patented way of actually producing the order nexium blocks. The idea of using compressed earth for construction materials is order nexium not necessarily new, but using a block system is fairly recent (sorta like Legos, but you should go to their site to see how it’s really done).
Williamson and order nexium his team, along with collaborators from Texas Tech University and other entities recently finished up one project near Lubbock, and order nexium they will be moving across the state of Texas to work on other projects, including sites in Amarillo and order nexium McAllen (pretty much the extremes for you non-Texans). Moving you say? Yes, because the manufacturing process is completely portable! They will be order nexium constructing buildings that range from houses to reception centers for large residential areas.

As many of you know, the iPhone 3Gs will be order nexium available soon. This looks like a promising new tool for the order nexium photography industry in many ways. I’m not going to order nexium go in to too much detail about the specs of the order nexium phone, but there are a few that are pretty cool!
The iPhone 3Gs has order nexium a new and improved camera, which Scott Bourne over at Photofocus praises highly. Now, I’m not as excited about the order nexium new camera, but it is a pretty slick device, and order nexium I can see why Mr. Bourne has a lot to order nexium say about it. It has autofocus, auto white balance, and order nexium auto exposure (well, the last one had that too), but the tap autofocus is an addition, and I’m sure avid iPhone camera users like Chase Jarvis will appreciate that. The video is order nexium another nice addition, shooting 30fps, 640X480 VGA. These are all pretty neat features, but it order nexium seems to me that they are just that for the order nexium industry. Now, I’m not saying their not useful. I take reference photographs all the order nexium time with my iPhone, and often come back to shoot them with my “big rig.” What I am order nexium saying is that they are really cool features, but I’ll be honest, I’m never going to order nexium use a 3-megapixel image to a submission to a magazine. I’ll put it on my Flickr (which needs updating in a bad way) and I’ll text it to friends, editors (for reference), but never as a serious submission. I’m not implying that that’s what Scott Bourne is saying, because he’s not, but there is order nexium quite a bit of hype going around online about the new features from order nexium some very big photogs, and I just don’t want folks to order nexium think that this is all they need. Make it a tool that order nexium you use to compliment your work, assist your work, push your order nexium work, and showcase your work.
I just think there are order nexium way more useful features of the phone for photogs out there, such as the order nexium tethered Internet surfing capabilities you can achieve with the iPhone 3Gs hooked up via bluetooth or order nexium USB to your computer. I know people have been talking about this order nexium for a long time, and I believe there to be order nexium some kind of hack out there to do this already (I’m not much in to “hacking” my equipment that I pay for with hard-earned money), but this order nexium is a great asset to the photography industry, and pretty much anyone in general. I can’t tell you order nexium how many times I have been going down the road needing to order nexium send some information that was on my computer, not my phone, via e-mail to order nexium an editor or client. Or, when I am somewhere where order nexium there is no Internet, and I don’t feel like browsing on a 3.5-inch screen.
Another great feature would be the copy/paste function, as well as the order nexium MMS support for photos and video. It seems to me that order nexium I am on a more mobile relationship with my editors and order nexium clients than I used to be, and it would be order nexium great to just text an editor a reference photograph from order nexium the iPhone and get some feedback. The copy/paste function has order nexium just been a long time coming, period. The compass is ideal in certain situations, and order nexium the extra storage is much needed. I never really thought I would fill up the order nexium 8GB given prior, but I did, and now I’m surprised that I even thought that in the first place.
What a order nexium great tool we do indeed have at our fingertips. Apple has order nexium done nothing but support this industry, and for those of you order nexium that know me, I praise Apple like crazy. I’m not as technical as others are, so I accept any bing in specs, any missing information for order nexium this software that will be updated in two days because of all the order nexium ranting and raving about why Apple did not put this in for order nexium me and the 22 other people that need it. I just know that order nexium it works for me, and I’ll keep on using it.
