Listening to right now: Ryan Adams – Easy Tiger
There’s a song on this album called “Halloweenhead.” In reference to a myst that certain “candies” bring upon someone, this song is probably the most upbeat song dealing with one of the more darker parts of life. I’m always impressed with Adams’s music. While not my favorite artist overall, he’s a brilliant songwriter. He’s a regular spin in the band’s speakers. I certainly enjoy the fact that he doesn’t do much that represents him as a mainstream artist, however, he is, and that’s cool too.
Everything is mainstream (here’s my rant). Another way to put this statement, and probably a more appropriate way to say it is that I believe the only “underground” is the music that absolutely no one knows about from an artist that no one knows about. Maybe this is too obvious, but I’m pretty sure that Ryan Adams may have at one time have been considered “not mainstream,” but I think after appearing on Letterman a few times and writing a song that is heralded by college greek life, you can not be seen in the same light. But, who cares really. He still writes good stuff, and if it’s cool to like Ryan Adams because you do, then I’m fine with that. I still know he’s a great songwriter. He’s still doing what he wants to do, doing it the way he wants to. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be doing it.
